A pastor famous for his attempts to ‘cure’ people of their homosexuality has come out as gay – but refused to apologize for wrecking the lives of past ‘patients.’

Mormon pastor David Matheson made the dramatic announcement on Facebook, which was later picked up by LGBT campaign group Truth Wins Out, saying that being single and celibate ‘just isn’t feasible for him, so he’s seeking a male partner.’

The post claimed that Matheson ‘has gone from bisexuality to exclusively gay, with the preacher remaining unrepentant about his damaging work when contacted by Truth Wins Out.

David Matheson, a notorious preacher of ‘conversion’ therapy to ‘cure’ gay people of their homosexuality has come out as gay, but refused to apologize for the havoc his teachings wrought on the lives of other LGBT people

He said: ‘My time in a straight marriage and in the “ex-gay” world was genuine and sincere and a rich blessing to me.

‘I remember most of it with fondness and gratitude for the joy and growth it caused in me and many others.

‘But I had stopped growing and was starting to die.

‘So I’ve embarked on a new life-giving path that has already started a whole new growth process. I wasn’t faking it all those years.

‘I’m not renouncing my past work or my LDS faith. And I’m not condemning mixed-orientation marriages.

‘I continue to support the rights of individuals to choose how they will respond to their sexual attractions and identity.

Among Matheson’s programs was ‘Journey into Manhood,’ which saw men struggling with their sexuality gathering in a forest to engage in ‘masculine’ activites in a bid to become straight

‘With that freedom, I am now choosing to pursue life as a gay man.’

Truth Wins Out director Wayne Besen said Matheson’s announcement further exposed the gay conversion therapy industry as dangerous and pointless.

Among Matheson’s past ‘achievements’ was writing a program called ‘Journey Into Manhood.’

That saw men struggling with their sexuality gather in a forest to engage in ‘manly’ activities in a bizarre bid to straighten themselvesout.

Besen added: ‘Conversion therapy employs guilt and shame to browbeat desperate and vulnerable people into renouncing their humanity.

‘This is the latest evidence that conversion therapy is consumer fraud and ought to be outlawed in all 50 states.’
